About Me

My name is Peter Medbury and I'm a Bushwalker.

I'm lucky.  I live in Orange in the Central West of New South Wales, just 2 hours drive from the Gardens of Stone, the Wollemi, the Blue Mountains and the Kanangra-Boyd National Parks.  There are some lesser known Parks & Conservation Areas close by.

I started bushwalking when I was about 11 years old and continued until I married.  I was particularly interested in exploring areas associated with the early Oil Shale Industry and its railways.  Bushwalking was pushed aside in favour of family responsibilities, leaving a list of unrealised dreams - like walking from Kanangra Walls to Katoomba.

Family life, a career in IT and a passion for Softball (as an Umpire) has kept me very busy.  For a long time I never gave bushwalking a thought but I always found time to dabble in photography and for native plants.  In April 2006 I started walking again after a 30 year break, with my good friend Geoff Fox.

I am a member of the Upper Blue Mountains Bushwalking Club and the Bush Club.  When I can I walk with a Club.  If I'm interested in something specific I will probably walk by myself.  I've found that photography isn't all that high on a bushwalker's agenda although they are pretty tolererant.

My walking was curtailed in May 2009 by the sudden onset of Heart Disease.  At the beginning of July 2009 an Angiogram revealed I had 3 very blocked arteries (one 99% blocked).  In July/August 2009 I was treated with multistage Angioplasty (in Liverpool & here in Orange).  The 3 arteries have been opened using 4 Stents.  I was fortunate - I never had a Heart Attack.  I was treated in the Public Hospital System by fantastic Cardiologists, Doctors & Nurses.  I can never thank them enough - every day is a bonus.  It just shows that a healthy life style, good diet & lots of exercise does not make you immune to Coronary Artery Disease.

After a long period of rehabilitation & with fitness fully recovered I have resumed bushwalking, usually getting out in the bush at least once a week.
