Family:  Orchidaceae

Description:  The Red Beard Orchid is a terrestrial herb with a single leaf that dies back to the tuber every year.  It is usually 30cm - 40cm tall.   Silky red hairs resembling a beard grow on the labellum.  The flowers are green with horizontal red stripes.

Distribution:  Red Beard Orchids can be found in open forest and heath often in damper areas. 

Comments:  Red Beard Orchids are pollinated by wasps.
