Family:  Proteaceae

Flowering Period: September through to May but can continue right through the year.

Distribution: Common & widespread in heath & open forest on sandstone areas of the Blue Mountains, north & south coast & Sydney.

Comments:  Mountain Devils are spreading shrubs with very sharp leaves, sometimes reaching 2 metres.   They appear to have large, bright red flowers but these are actually a cluster of 7 long, narrow, tubular flowers arranged to look like a single flower.  The Mountain Devil gets its name from the shape of the seed capsule which has a beak and 2 horns, resembling a horned devil.
