The Proteaceae Family in Australia is large & varied, comprising some 50 genera & 900 species.

It is split into 3 sub families, the Grevilleoideaes, the Persoonioideaes & the Proteoideaes.

The Grevilleoideae sub family includes Banksias, Grevilleas, Hakeas, Lambertias, Lomatias, Telopeas & Xylomelum.  Their fruit is a follicle & their flowers are commonly in bracteate pairs.
