Distribution: Widespread and quite common, in open forest. It is often found in poor soil and around rocky outcrops.
Comments: Triggerplants are small herbs with a tuft of leaves at the base and pink flowers borne on long stalks.
The stamen and stigma on a triggerplant flower are joined together and held behind the flower. The weight of an insect landing on the flower 'triggers' the stamen/stigma to move over the insect and touch it, depositing pollen on the insect and collecting it if it already has some. The device will fire several times.
