It was my interest in the railways associated with the Shale Oil Industry that got me into bushwalking.  It is reflected in much of the reference material I have collected & use.

It is ironic that an industry that laid waste to so much bushland could lead a love of bushwalking.

I also find other aspects of development, like roads, bridges and early settlements, fascinating too.

When I'm walking I am always on the lookout for relics of of early development.  You'd be surprised where you find them.

When you think about the way we live and what we take for granted you really have to wonder about and admire the people who lived and worked in those isolated industrial communities.

Our lives would be so different without the modern transport facilities and communication systems we use.
