Carlon Head is a promontory on the western side of Narrow Neck Plateau about 1.25k from Bushwalkers Hill.
Carlon Head was named after the Carlon family who lived in the Megalong Valley below the bluff.
There is a route through the cliff line linking Narrow Neck Plateau with the valley below. A series of chains, spikes & footholds, known as Mansons Ladder or Carlons Chains makes the steeper sections possible.
The route was first used in 1932 by members of the Warrigal Club. It wasn't until 1941 that the chains were installed. The route is very exposed & quite dangerous.
There terrific views from the cliffs at the top of the Carlon Head, well worth the visit even if you aren't using the chains.
