Mt Towac is a remnant volcanic cone, one of several in the area.  It is an excellent example of its type.

The dome is capped with rhyolite, a fine grained gray rock, mostly made of silica .

The ridges radiating away from the peak are heavily eroded exposing volcanic rocks balancing precariously in place.
